From Monday May 14th, 2012 to Thursday June 7th, 2012 I interned with Mrs. Melissa Whitman. Melissa is one of three Instructional Technology Specialists for the Nazareth Area School District in Nazareth, PA. She works for the Nazareth Area Intermediate School which is grades 4 through 6 and Bushkill Elementary which is Kindergarden to 3rd grade..

The moving up video was worked on from the beginning to the end of my internship. Melissa and I went through three years worth of photos and videos that were taken by students, teachers, and other members of the school community. This video also had music, transitions, slides, and more. The video was shown at the Moving Up Ceremony on the last day of class for the 6th graders. They are moving on to the Middle School next year! The video was a success and the students really enjoyed watching their time at the Intermediate School in multimedia form.

{ScreenShot001.jpg} For all of the slideshows that were made part of the Moving Up video, put on the websites for overviews of school activities, and end of year DVDs, Photo Story was used. This program was so user friendly and allowed me to quickly import pictures, add music to the show, and export it to make a professional looking product.
{Screen Shot 10.09.39 PM.png} iMovie was used when recording videos of the NewsTeam to be put on the website. iMovie was also used to edit together slideshows from Photo Story, put together the moving up ceremony movie, and much much more that we did with the students. I learned how to do 'picture-in-picture' and 'green screen' on the program. I have past experience with iMovie so the use of it was easy, user friendly for me, and projects were done quickly.
{Screen Shot 10.09.54 PM.png} iDVD was the program we used to export our iMovies to, to give the projects to teachers. It was nice to put a professional looking 'Main Menu' type screen on these projects and easily burn them on to DVDs.

I worked with her, other Instructional Technologists in the district, students, teachers, and administrators during my time, while learning new skills and enhancing some I already had. The objective for the internship of "giving the student experiences in a professional setting where the competencies the student has gained through course work can be applied and further developed" was met 100%. My internship was done in a K-12 setting because I am earning my Specialist Certification along with my Masters.

Skype is an online application which "allows users to communicate with peers by voice, video, and instant messaging over the Internet."
At Bushkill Elementary, the 3rd grade students got to Skype with other 3rd grade students at another Elementary School in the district. This school was Shafter Elementary. At Shafer, these students were doing a project with raising baby chicks. Since the students at Bushkill were not doing this, the two classes Skyped and Shafter students explained their experience while the Bushkill students asked questions like "When is their birthday?!"
It was a great experience to see Skype used in a larger setting than just one-on-one and being used for such an educational and interesting topic.

The Nazareth Area Intermediate News Team is very unique. The program airs on the school-wide television system every morning before classes begin AND it is totally student run. Melissa and two other technology teachers supervise, but the 6th grade Producers put together all the images on the screen, the scripts, music, and more that air every day on their own. Every student in the school from 4th-6th grade get to be on the show at least once through out the school year. Certain students read jokes, some get to anchor the show, and more.
I got to work with the current Producers and help pick out next year's Producers.
